Hotel
For accommodations, the Empress hotel in downtown La Jolla was our top recommendation but it seems like all their rooms are now booked. The Best Western Plus Inn by the Sea is in the same vicinity and the Hotel La Jolla is a short drive but still very close to the Martin Johnson House. The Empress Hotel still might be worth a call first though as it seems some rooms have been opening up.
Shuttle service
Starting at 3:30pm, there will be shuttles provided from the hotel to the Martin Johnson House. The shuttles will return to the hotel following the reception.
Area recommendations
Downtown La Jolla has many delicious restaurants, great views of the Pacific Ocean and a vibrant nightlife. The hotel itself is just a stone’s throw from the Sandwich Club, one of David’s favorite lunch spots. For dinner, few places in La Jolla are better than Forever Fondue. The La Jolla Cove features wild seals and sea lions sunbathing. For drinks, Karl Strauss, a local San Diego brewpub is just a short stumble away.
